Time to refresh and recharge, for the person receiving care, and the carer who loves them.
Being a full-time carer is one of the most demanding roles there is, and everyone needs a break. Ambition Health Group is a trusted respite care provider delivering professional respite care across Australia, giving carers genuine time to rest while their loved one enjoys quality care, companionship and a change of pace. From a few hours at home to a supported stay away, our respite services Australia-wide are designed to leave everyone feeling refreshed.
Done well, respite isn't just a break for the carer. It's a genuine positive for the person receiving care, too: new faces, fresh activities, social connection and a change of scene. Whether you're arranging respite care for a disabled family member or an elderly loved one, we design our support so both sides come away better for it.
This type of care is especially helpful for family caregivers who need time to rest, attend to personal commitments, or recover from caregiver stress. It also supports individuals recovering from surgery or illness who may need temporary assistance during their recovery period.
Respite care services are available for seniors, individuals with disabilities, and those with ongoing health conditions. Trained care professionals provide support, companionship, and supervision, allowing caregivers to take a break while ensuring their loved ones remain safe and well cared for.

Respite Care FAQs Answered
Who is eligible for respite care?
Respite is available for older Australians, people with disability, and those recovering from illness or surgery. Disability respite services through the NDIS are funded as STA/respite for participants, while older Australians access support through My Aged Care, CHSP, Home Care Packages / Support at Home, or Carer Gateway. Private respite care is available for anyone not covered by a program.
What's the difference between NDIS STA and aged care respite?
NDIS Short-Term Accommodation (STA) is respite funded through an NDIS plan, usually up to 28 days per year, covering 24/7 support, accommodation, meals and activities. Aged care respite is for older Australians and is funded through My Aged Care, including up to 63 days per year of subsidised residential respite, plus in-home and community options.
How long can someone stay in respite care?
It depends on the funding. NDIS STA is typically up to 28 days per year, used flexibly. Aged care residential respite is up to 63 days per financial year, with extensions available. In-home and community respite can be arranged for a few hours, overnight, or several weeks.
How quickly can emergency respite be arranged?
Emergency respite can often be arranged at very short notice. If your regular carer is suddenly unwell, hospitalised or unavailable, call us and we’ll mobilise rapid-response support to keep care going without a gap.
Can I use respite if I care for someone with dementia?
Yes. We provide dementia-specific respite with staff trained in dementia care, offering the routine, calm and consistency that’s so important, across in-home, community and residential respite.
How much does respite care cost?
Many people receive partially or fully subsidised respite through the NDIS, My Aged Care, CHSP or Carer Gateway. The cost depends on your funding, the type of respite (in-home, residential or community) and the duration. We’ll help you understand what’s covered before anything starts.
How do I arrange respite care?
For NDIS participants, respite is arranged through your STA/respite funding. For older Australians, you’ll access it via My Aged Care, CHSP or Carer Gateway. Contact Ambition Health Group and our team will guide you through eligibility, funding and booking, including emergency respite when it’s needed urgently.
