The Australian Government has announced a temporary delay for the new Aged Care Act 2024 and the Support at Home Program, with the revised start date now set for November 1, 2025.

How Does Funding Work?

Eight funding levels

Each level represents a different set of needs, with funding distributed quarterly. This allows for a more consistent and predictable financial arrangement.

Contribution based on circumstances

The funding you will receive depends on your support level, which is determined by an assessment of your care needs. The program offers eight funding levels, ranging from $10,000 for low-level needs (Level 1) to $150,000 for those with intensive care needs (Level 8).

Level 1 $10,000 Low care needs: Individuals requiring minimal support, typically for assistance with personal care and housekeeping.
Level 2 $15,000 Low to moderate care: Assistance with activities of daily living such as personal care, social support, and some clinical support.
Level 3 $25,000 Moderate care: Individuals needing more support with mobility, clinical care, and household assistance.
Level 4 $40,000 High care: Those who need significant assistance with clinical health needs, mobility, personal care, and home maintenance.
Level 5 $50,000 Very high care: Includes extensive support, including complex clinical care, rehabilitation, and high-level personal care.
Level 6 $70,000 Intensive care: High level of ongoing clinical support, 24/7 assistance, and full household support, suitable for those with chronic illnesses or complex needs.
Level 7 $100,000 Full support for individuals with highly complex needs, including 24-hour care and comprehensive healthcare services.
Level 8 $150,000 Intensive, round-the-clock care, with a tailored, holistic approach addressing all aspects of the individual’s health, mobility, and wellbeing.

Short-term funding options available under the Support at Home Program include:

  • Restorative Care: Around $6,000, with potential to increase up to $12,000 if eligible.
  • End-of-Life Care: Approximately $25,000 for up to 12 weeks of intensive, specialised support.
  • Assistive Technology & Home Modifications: Starting at around $500, with the possibility of increasing up to $15,000, depending on individual needs.

What about my contributions to my care?

Clients may be asked to contribute to the cost of services based on their income and financial situation. The amount you contribute will depend on your Income Tested Fee (ITF), which is determined by the government’s assessment of your financial situation. What is happening with service pricing under Support at Home?
